U.K. Dog Handlers Tour To Eurodogshow 2008

U.K. Dog Handlers Association travelled again to Belgium with Coach and cars and had a very successful weekend joining the 200 English dogs competing at the Eurodogshow. The warm welcome to all competitors makes this an extremely successful Show increasing in entries each year. The Coach party and cars were organised by Jacqui & Garry Hurley with Stan Roberts ably taking on the role of courier. Tour arrangements were made through a very efficient and effective Tour Company, Bowens Travel.

All travelled in comfort with the dogs allocated fitted cage space alongside their owner’s seats. The Tour Hotel was comfortable with a good menu. On Friday evening the Secretary of Eurodogshow joined us for dinner to welcome everyone to the 45th Eurodogshow 2008.

Eurodogshow is proud of the fact that for a number of years it has attracted competitors and Judges from many different Countries and this year was no exception with over 25 Countries represented. On the morning of the show arrangements ran smoothly and we were able to get all the dogs through the vetting system. This is a very large venue consisting of six huge Halls full of show rings and trade stands with the Our Dogs Trade Stand joining the Show for the first time this year. Trade Stands were full with anything and everything for the dog owner but without giving the impression of overcrowding even though the Show attracts more than 25,000 visiting spectators. The Society’s dinner on Saturday evening was certainly a wonderful musical experience and demonstrated the Team spirit of the committee as they patiently waited for all to finish their work before beginning the meal. Commencing at 8pm the main meal was followed by eloquent speeches in 5 languages by the President and Secretary so that everyone present, from all corners of the world, felt welcomed and their judging valued.

All the dogs travelling with the Tour were placed in their breed Classes and most took the CACIB/CAC for their breed. Our Senior and Junior Handling Teams were also extremely successful with the U.K. Team winning the Top Team Award on day one closely followed by Belgium, Germany & France.

Overall Individual Results:
Holly Kavanagh [U.K.] 1st Place
Marian Stipout [Netherlands] 2nd
Malinda Thomas [UK] 3rd
Sally Gibbins [UK] 4th
Ine Vanseer [Belgium] 5th
Jodi Allen [UK] 6th

The following U.K. Handlers were also highly placed within their Age Groups and demonstrated excellent Handling Skills:
Page Allen Zane Heather
James Rogerson Judith Prigg
Amelia Siddle Margaret Lansdell
Hannah Bedding Pamela Barford
Nicole Bailey Louisa Henry
Stephanie Lansdell Melanie Bird
Felicity Freer

Two or three Handlers who didn’t make the final stood out from the others in their age groups for me and deserved to be in the overall placings ~ Felicity Freer has made exceptional progress and produced some faultless presentations. Hannah Bedding has also improved considerably in the last 12 months and well deserved her high marks. Stephanie Lansdell always puts in an excellent performance and rarely makes any technical errors. Page Allen , James Rogerson, Margaret Lansdell, Judith Prigg and Nicole Bailey always do well and are always serious contenders for the top spots. It was good to see Zane Heather back with us again and to see that he hadn’t forgotten everything although his girlfriend put on such an impressive demonstration that he’d better watch out. Melanie Bird joined us for the first time this year and also achieved an excellent standard as did Pamela Barford with her companion Louisa Henry. Well done all of you.
